Chief Morris has 48 years of experience in fire and EMS. He started as a
"Cadet Firefighter at age 12, in the Brookside Volunteer Fire Department in
Belmont County in 1958. Before moving to Carroll in 1985, he was a Captain
and EMS Coordinator on the Barton Volunteer Fire Dept., also in Belmont
County. When he moved to the central Ohio area, the criteria he used for
locating his family was weather or not he could join the local fire
department as a volunteer. Greenfield Township welcomed him and made him
part of their family. Chief Morris is a state certified fire instructor,
state certified paramedic instructor, and state certified fire safety
inspector. In 1997 the trustees decided to move the department from all
volunteer to a combination department of both volunteer and part-time paid
personnel, in order to provide better service to the citizens. At that time,
Terry was Assistant Chief of the department and decided to remain a
volunteer, but in 1998 he started working some part time shifts. In 2000 the
trustees had an evaluation of the needs of the community as related to the
fire department assessed by T.G. Fire/EMS Systems, Inc. One of their
determinations was we needed a full time Fire Chief. Chief Morris applied
for the position along with twenty two other candidates from both outside
and within the department. After all of the testing and interviewing was
complete, Chief Morris was offered the position. He started as full time
chief on February 1, 2001. Chief Morris and his wife of thirty eight years,
Theresa, reside on Carroll Eastern Road just outside of the Village of
Carroll. They have three adult children and 5 grandchildren, all living in
Greenfield Township. Chief Morris’s goals include providing the residents of
Greenfield Township with the best possible Fire and EMS service, by building
the department into the best and most respected fire department in the
central Ohio area.
